Askorly

Child Safety and Parental Consent

Last updated: 22 October 2026

Draft for review. Askorly is an early prototype and is not yet used by real students. This page describes how we plan to operate and is not legal advice. It will be reviewed by qualified legal counsel before launch.

Askorly is designed for learners of all ages, so we set our safety rules for the youngest user. These are our commitments. They are built in stages and tested before any real student uses Askorly.

1. Parents stay in charge

  • Accounts for children under 13 are created and verified by a parent or guardian.
  • Children never see a sign-up form or open web links.
  • Parents can see progress, receive a weekly plain-language note, set screen-time limits and read conversation transcripts for children under 13.

2. A tutor with boundaries

  • Each age group has a list of topics the tutor will discuss, and a tone that suits that age.
  • Off-topic or unsuitable requests are gently redirected, not answered.
  • The tutor never pretends to be a friend or romantic partner, never asks for personal details and never keeps secrets from parents.
  • The tutor is always clear that it is an AI.

3. Checks on every message

Messages are checked before they reach the AI and replies are checked before they reach the learner. The rules that protect children are written into our software, so they cannot be argued away in a chat.

4. If a child needs help

If a learner shares something worrying, such as thoughts of self-harm, abuse or bullying, Askorly stops the lesson and replies with a short, caring, pre-written message. A parent or guardian is told, and the conversation is flagged for a trained person to review within 24 hours.

5. Your child's data

  • We collect the minimum needed to teach.
  • No advertising, no tracking and no selling of data.
  • Transcripts for children under 13 are deleted after 12 months unless the parent keeps them.
  • Parents can export or delete their child's data at any time, with deletion completed within 30 days.

6. Testing before launch

Before real students use Askorly, we test the safety system against grooming patterns, self-harm, violence, sexual content and attempts to get around the rules. A named safeguarding lead can stop a release. Until those checks are passed, Askorly is a demonstration prototype for adult testers only.

7. Raising a concern

If you are worried about something you saw in Askorly, tell us straight away. If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.
